Amanda II

A new generation of fishing possibilities from La Paz.

With the Amanda II, The Fishermen’s Fleet is proud to present a new generation of fishing possibilities from La Paz, Baja California Sur. The Fishermen’s Fleet has been the most successful panga fishing operation in La Paz for 15 years, providing day trips to Cerralvo Island, Punta Arena, Muertos Bay, Espiritu Santo, and El Bajo — legendary fishing spots providing some of the best light tackle big game fishing to be had on the planet. With the addition of the Amanda II to our menu of options, we’re able to provide unequaled levels of service and comfort, and access places and times of day that the normal one-day panga trips cannot.

The Boat

The Amanda II is a 38 foot Gulf Craft, built in the United Arab Emirates to serve as the launch for a very large custom built yacht used by a local sheik. A luxury craft with room to sleep six, she’s equipped with twin Volvo Penta diesel motors complete with both superchargers and turbochargers, capable of speeds up to 30 knots. A full galley with microwave and ice maker, a large head with hot shower, TV, CD, VHS, satellite radio, 110V generator, fresh water maker, air conditioning, and a beautiful leather interior provide comfort for our clients. Full electronics — radar, sonar, GPS, autopilot, and VHF radio — provide both the safety and security required, along with full tackle, a bait tank, outriggers, and a downrigger.

The Crew

The secret weapon of the Amanda II is the crew. Capt. Dan Hannegan is a U.S. Coast Guard licensed 100 ton Captain who has spent his whole life fishing and on the ocean. After commercially fishing the northeast United States for lobster and swordfish, Dan helped pioneer the San Diego long range fleet, working for Bill Poole, and has operated boats on the Baja and out of La Paz for the last 12 years. Alejandro Lucero is second in command — one of our panga captains at Las Arenas, he’s worked on yachts and sport fishers out of La Paz extensively over the last 15 years. With Dan’s global experience and Alejandro’s life spent fishing the local waters, it’s a potent team to optimize your time on the water while guaranteeing the safety and convenience you require.

One Day Trips

We offer one day packages out of La Paz to access Espiritu Santo, Cerralvo, and El Bajo. These trips leave from La Paz at 5am and return around 5pm, and include breakfast, lunch, snacks, and drinks. Whether it’s a day of fishing or a sightseeing excursion to the islands with snorkeling, the Amanda II is the best way for up to six people to spend a day from La Paz.

Land Based Packages

We’re proud to partner with the Fiesta Inn in offering multi-day land based fishing packages. Including hotel accommodations, breakfast, lunch, snacks, drinks, and the cleaning and vacuum packing of your catch, these packages are the best way for groups of up to 4 fishermen to enjoy a relaxing trip and an exciting fishing experience while enjoying the comfort the Fiesta Inn Resort provides.

Multi-Day Expeditions

The ultimate fishing adventure. Multi-day trips out of La Paz can fish our traditional spots at dawn and dusk — times unavailable when fishing from pangas — or go beyond the range of the day trippers to explore either the islands north of La Paz or venture out into the Sea of Cortez. These spots aren’t accessible to day fishermen, offering a glimpse into what fishing in the Sea of Cortez was like 50 years ago. Three meals a day, snacks and drinks are all included, and we tow a panga with us for more variety and opportunities — swimming in deserted coves, gathering shellfish for meals, and night fishing are just some of the possibilities for groups of up to 4. Packages of varying duration are available, with custom trips of up to 4 nights.
